My name is Spyro Zarifopoulos and I am 58 years old. I was born in the US, where I spent my early years up until 6 years of age, at which point my parents decided to move back to Athens, Greece where I received my formal education for Elementary and High School. I attended University in New York and have remained here since, thus, calling New York “home”.
I must say that I am very grateful for the experience of the two countries, as it has really played a key role in my outlook, perception and understanding of the world. I am very proud of my Greek Heritage; as well as being grateful and appreciative of the education and opportunities available to me in the United States.
Photography for me is a passion and a very serious hobby. Although I have never pursued a formal education in Photography, I have continuously spent an enormous amount of time researching and learning on my own. I did an enormous amount of research and reading, in order to understand the intricacies of how photography really worked.
Throughout this journey, I recognize that the process never ends….understanding, learning, experimenting and experiencing are the key fundamentals of any photographer.

Although I have never pursued a formal education in Photography, I have continuously spent an enormous amount of time researching and learning on my own. This enables me to focus on my particular areas of interest as opposed to attending group workshops, seminars, etc. that are usually catering to a broader audience. However, one very favorable outcome of several workshops I attended, was being connected with a few instructors that were informative to my learning as well as being influential to my style of photography.
Honorable mention would have to go to Tim Cooper, David Middleton, and David Munch… to name a few. Their knowledge and style have helped to foster my growth and development throughout my journey.
I am drawn to Landscape, Portrait, and as of lately, Nude and Boudoir style photography. Different genres - they all encompass natural beauty, and are equally inspiring to me.
Photography as my passion and artistic expression completes me, something that I don’t know that I would be able to do if it was my profession. I think the day to day stress to survive would almost take away the fun and limit the direction to what truly inspires me. That is why I have the utmost respect and admiration for professional photographers, for their patience and perseverance to maintain their artistic expression and vision.
My enthusiasm for traveling, meeting people and being able to combine this with local landscapes really inspires me. My dream would be to travel the world taking pics, but reality only affords me to do that to some extent. I love capturing something special and being able to share it with others. Sharing that “feel” in an image is what I forever strive to achieve. Nothing inspires me more than observing all the details that surround me and sharing that experience with others through my images.
I hope that you enjoyed my personal photographic journey and my images. I am happy to answer any questions so please feel free to contact me. All my social media venues are part of my website www.spyrozarifopoulos.com - hope to hear from you and connect soon!
